WEEKLY MONSTER 126

Good afternoon! How are you? I’m sorry that I’m only posting so sporadically right now, but I’m in overdrive on finalizing a few more product designs for the ECHO PARK TIME TRAVEL MART, which is opening on Sunday. Beyond that, there are a few other things happening that make it hard to write as often as I’d like. That said, it is Wednesday, and neither sleet nor snow (or, in the case of Los Angeles, a vicious 65º cold snap) will keep me from bringing you a new Weekly Monster.

It looks like you had fun with last week’s monster, and I hope you’ll enjoy this one, too. What do you think explains his (Her? Its?) particular style? Where do you think 126 is headed? And why? Is he coming back? Is he running an errand? Going home? Setting out? Is he alone? Is he but one organism? Or is symbiosis involved? What do you think?

Postyourstoryhere

I’m excited to see what you’ll come up with.
Who knows if there will be a second book.
Get in on the ground floor!

For now, I hope you’ll have a lovely, mellow rest of the week.
If you’re in L.A. this Sunday, please drop by the store opening and say Hello.
The address is 1714 Sunset Blvd. and the doors open at noon.
Until then, you surely must know that 344 LOVES YOU

    Wowee! That was so fun!
Gordon’s Disco Fever Jamboree is only one universe away and Cassius Cool will be there in a jiff, as soon as he picks up Cordelia. She’s got the password. The password is sarsaparilla windfall. Actually, that is a ‘pass phrase’; it is determined to be much safer than a simple password. Cordelia is also the double-jointed one and so can do the ‘pass dance’ correctly too, which is…….well I can’t show you, I’m not double-jointed.

Merv was late for his 1975 class reunion at Mars High School.
He decided to take the express shuttle, but only after falling asleep and waking to find himself back where he started, did he realize he bought a ’round trip’ ticket instead of a ‘one way’. thus shooting him out and around Mars…

Although his space travels were all in his mind, Smedley’s lift to his flight simulator always made him feel very Inspector Gadget-ish.

    Nerdy ol’ Milly Flazoo
had no idea what to do.
Back at home, he was all alone,
with not a single friend to talk to.
So then Milly, with yelow, downcast eyes,
decided “I’ll give them a big surprise!
When they see what I’ll do, they’ll all be dazed,
I’ll bring them a planet from outer space!”
    But all was not well,
    his hopes sure fell,
    when he got pulled in,
    by the fourth planet in.
    Now nerdy ol’ Milly Flazoo,
STILL doesn’t know what to do,
he’s caught in this planet, for so long until
    he can invent something new
Dr. Seuss, eat yer heart out. xD Remember me everybody?

    Hi Stefan!
Love your work and your ethic is so inspiring. One question: what tools do you use (pens, paper, etc) because I love the look you’re getting, especially with color. Thanks, and keep up the amazing work!

Hello Caitlin! Thank you for the kind words. I’m glad you’re enjoying the monsters (and appreciating the hours.) I use Faber-Castell PITT artist pens, Staedtler pigment liners, Tombo ABT pens for color, Sharpies (fine point and wedge tip), and Yasutomo Sumi ink on regular old uncoated bond paper.

I’ve filmed myself drawing some faces out of random objects. They’re not as good as Stefan’s, but i’m still only fourteen. Try the link below to look at some.

Spike Jonze is talking to The Smashing Pumpkins about his concept for the video for “1979”. His idea is that the Pumpkins are living at an alien hotel, and they all wear alien elephant masks, and the video proceeds logically from there. In fact, he’s already had a casting call, and 126 is the lead!
126 had shown up dressed like he used to dress in 1979 – lacking arms himself, he had found himself drawn to the album “Armed Forces” by Elvis Costello, and immediately bought the glasses. The bellbottoms were unfortunate, but you make your choices and stick with them.
But the band has reservations. Aren’t they already doing a space thing with “Tonight, Tonight”? In the end, they decide to go with Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, whose “Farewell to Youth by Disaffected Suburban Teens” concept rings truer to the song, according to Corgan. When 126 catches the video later on MTV and sees the disaffected suburban teens throw the pool chairs into the water, he’s had it. In what way is that a better idea than space-elephant-hotel? And wait, isn’t this the band that sang “Disarm”? What is that, some kind of paraplegic joke? He’s done. He pulls on the bellbottoms one more time (don’t ask how) and takes off. And he thinks: we don’t know just where our bones will rest. To dust, I guess, forgotten and absorbed into the earth below.
