MEET THE HOW MONSTERS

Good evening. How are you? Thank you to all of you who came to my lecture at the HOW Conference on Monday, and to my little party at the Foundation Lounge on Tuesday. It was great to meet all of you. Here are a few photos at Mr. Mig Reyes’ photostream. Also, please visit his great blog of the conference. Mig was kind enough to let me embed the video he took of the very special monster I made for the session:

After the session Doug Bartow of i29 did an interview with me
for SpeakUp. You can read it as part of this post here.

A big event for me was getting to finally meet Amy Schell and Grace Ring, my editor and art director at HOW Books respectively. We spent almost a year working on the book together, but this is the first time we were in the same room together. I also got to see Megan Patrick again, who brought the book into the HOW fold, of course. And who’s that masked man, you ask? Why it’s Monster Contributor No.1 — Ladies and gentlemen, please meet Sam B. Who I’d also never met in person.
It was a pleasure all around.

As I had mentioned, I also cooked up three special monster prints
for the conference. Now their making can be revealed:

I do hope you’ll like ’em!
And you do remember, I hope,
that 344 LOVES YOU

It’s not unusual for these monsters to be loved by anyone. And yes, I’m so glad to have met Sam, too. The mystery man is no more!
    Thanks for the plugs, Stefan!

Somehow I expected Sam B. to have a square jaw and big teeth. *L* He seems so much a part of the monsters.
I loved the performing monster! Even did the splits, so he was a James Brown monster.

I came back and the vids are working now 🙂 And each one is greater than the last. I thought the second one with the funky upper teeth might be a new favorite… but then the shadez-wearin’-funka-avian stole the show! That’s one cool cat… er… bird!

Also do u know what stores carry that type of ink?

  • 8 September 2009 7:30 pm

Hi JMR. I use Yasutomo sumi ink.

I buy mine at Dick Blick, but any art store either carries it, a comparable brand, or can special order it for you. It’s not expensive, either.
